I may get in trouble for this, but I think I have a major crush on Giada on the Food Network. My wife is recording “Giada’s Weekend Getaways.” The DVR changed off of “V for Vendetta” to the Food Network because it’s recording two shows at the same time.
Giada in a nutshell: Very pretty, pleasant voice, and she can cook. Her TV personality seems very nice and down to earth. Simply, I’m pretty sure I’d probably watch a bad show just because she’s in it. Jennifer Love Hewitt didn’t even get that… Sorry, but I just can’t watch “Ghost Whisperer.” If you don’t like her, I’d like to hear why. Perhaps I’m missing something, but I can’t figure out why she isn’t a big star already.

Giada annoys me. Sometimes I can tolerate her, but other times I just want her to go away. (She’s not as bad as that Sandra Dee chick the Food Network has on, but she’s close.) I wish I could give you some concrete reasons as to why I don’t like her, but I can’t. There’s just something about her that makes me want to change the channel. When she starts talking, my brain turns off. That’s the best way I can explain it.
I much prefer Nigella Lawson.
Unless we’re actually talking about food. Then I’m a Paula Deen guy. I’m sure that she’s way more annoying to some people that Giada is to me. However, as a southerner, I have no problem tolerating her. In fact, it gets a little easier every time she adds a stick of butter to something.
Am I the only one who thinks Chen Kenichi is sexy?
Giada has a huge head and … I might get in trouble for this but JJ and I noticed about 6-8 months ago that Giada is also inordinately proud of her … bosom. She regularly displays them, in a tasteful manner always, but regularly nonetheless. Yes, my husband and I actually drew this conclusion together. But I like Giada – I watch almost everything she’s in.
I’m not going to pretend like her pride bothers me. I mean, I’m a dude. It’s the talking that makes my brain take a lunch break. Maybe her voice irritates me? Yeah. Maybe I’ll try her show with closed captioning turned on.
Now who’s going to get in trouble?
Giada annoys me too. Its the voice and the huge head thing. Maybe The bosom thing too…
Adam and I always joke about Paula Deen, because although her food looks delicious she always seems to manage to get at least a pound of butter in every dish. I guess thats southern cooking though.
For my own cooking, I prefer Rachael Ray because every recipe I’ve tried has turned out really well. I also love Alton Brown, although it wasn’t always that way, he used to annoy me. But I appreciate his practical advice on cooking methods.
Now that we don’t have TV anymore, I really miss Food Network. Why, oh why can’t the cable company let us order stations a la carte?
Now, Rachael Ray annoys me. She sounds like she smokes a pack a day and her mouth is too big for her head.
I’m convinced no one dislikes Paula Deen. Who doesn’t love more butter?
Hayley, cable companies don’t let you order a la carte because you would never pay for it. The costs for the channels you want basically add up to what you pay for a tier. In other words, if you just wanted the major networks, ESPN, Food Network and Disney, it would probably cost about the same amount as the tier that includes those channels.
In fact, I think you’ve inspired me to write a whole post about it.
I cannot stand Rachel Ray! She’s much too chipper. I didn’t like Giada until she started working on the Today show. I can tolerate her now, but I’m still not a huge fan. She DOES have a huge head and an abnormally small body. I could watch Paula Deen all day. I love her!
Nick is spot on a couple of things.
1) Sandra Lee is the most annoying female with a cooking show on food network period. Not even close. Pure evil.
2) Nigella Lawson is F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S! I personally think she is the sexiest woman on Food Network right now… but not in a Giada way.
Wives just don’t like Giada. Mamie refers to her as “Giardia”, in fact. I think she seems too high maintenance for me.
Sandra Lee = 1 part food to 3 parts liquor. The way she fixes drinks for her “guests”, I’m convinced she only hosts Betty Ford Clinic reunions.
Well my favorites are Alton Brown as far as entertainment value. I just love his approach to creating a “food show” type program and I also really like Ace of Cakes but Ace of Cakes isn’t so much a cooking show as it is a reality show. But I don’t actually like Mr. Ace of Cakes himself. He’s fine, but his laugh gets on my nerves. My favorites are actually the executive sous chef, Geof, and the bakery manager, Mary Alice. I actually modify a lot of the recipes that I see on Food Network because most of the time there are not exactly what we like or want to eat but they are generally really good.
I don’t like Rachael Ray’s show or her personality, just her recipes. For some reason, her food tends to turn out the best for me. I LOVE Alton, but I must be stupid or something, because whenever I cook his recipes its always a disaster.
Josh, the first rule about TV/movie crushes is that you don’t have to worry about the maintenance! Even if she is too high maintenance, you’re not looking for a relationship… plus, all TV/movie people are too high maintenance because they’re used to someone else doing their hair and make-up… and they usually look high maintenance because of that, too. My guess is that Giada’s Weekend is really just an excuse to get her hair and make-up done on the weekends, too.
Who knew the Food Network post would get such a response?! Sadly, there were many names mentioned that I’ve never even heard of. Perhaps I’ll have to pay more attention when we’re watching it.
